Meet Coach Robin Little  | Coach of the Week

Week 1

School: Travis High School

Years Coaching: 19

How long have you been coaching? Where did your career begin? College\university you attended?

  • I am a proud high school graduate of Fort Bend ISD Willowridge High School and a graduate of Texas Southern University. I have been coaching for 19 years. I started my coaching career at Claughton Middle School in Spring coach girls and boys' basketball.

Why do you coach?

  • I coach flag football, because I am a retired professional women's football player. I played for the Houston Energy women's team for 15 years and the Houston Wildcats for a year, I also played flag football for at least 20 years.
  • I love the opportunity of encouraging girls to play a sport that demands commitment. Football is a game of many celebrations. With offense and defense, girls can find a position to be successful in. Being a part of this opportunity to bring flag football into the community. Most of all I am thankful that I can coach girls to play a boy's sport all while teaching them to be just as skilled and competitive as any other coach.

What is the most rewarding\fulfilling part of your job?

  • The most fulfilling part of my job is watching the growth of all the athletes from start to finish. Coaching every player on their level and helping them reach their full potential.

In your opinion, what is the significance of the growth of girl's flag football?

  • Let me start with, I wish flag football was around when I was in High School. Flag football teaches so much about teamwork, hard work, commitment, dedication, trust and competitiveness. Football alone is life. Inches make a difference; a penalty pauses gains and when you score a touchdown you feel the reward for the work you have done. What better way to teach life!
