School: Legacy School of Sports Sciences
Years Coaching: 3
How long have you been coaching? Where did your career begin? College\university you attended?
- For the past three years, I have been coaching flag football, bringing my passion for the game to new athletes. My sports journey began with basketball, a game I played from childhood all the way to the professional level. I competed in college basketball at Texas Christian University (TCU), and after concluding my basketball career, I transitioned to women's tackle football, playing for two seasons. In my first year, I had the incredible experience of winning a Super Bowl. During the off-season, I joined co-ed flag football, continuing to compete for another four years.
Why do you coach?
- I coach flag football because I genuinely love investing in young athletes, helping them chase their dreams—whether they're long-held aspirations or ones they never imagined possible. My coaching goes beyond the field; I incorporate elements of mental toughness training and guidance, ensuring they develop resilience and confidence in themselves. My goal is to empower them to embrace their individuality while building the mental strength to navigate challenges, both in the game and in life.
What is the most rewarding\fulfilling part of your job?
- The most rewarding part of my job is witnessing a player's breakthrough—the moment when everything clicks. After hours of practice, a concept, play, or move finally makes sense, and suddenly, their game elevates. That spark of understanding transforms their confidence, allowing them to step into their full potential and take their skills to the next level.
In your opinion, what is the significance of the growth of girl's flag football?
- The growth of flag football carries a significance that words can barely capture. It opens doors for girls to embrace their athleticism and display their talents with confidence. This sport fosters spaces where female athletes can cultivate strength, fierceness, and tenacity, building a unique sisterhood that thrives on empowerment. In an arena where girls were not a least encouraged to shine, flag football becomes more than a game, it becomes a testament to resilience. No matter how many times you hear "no," persistence will turn dreams into reality. Keep pushing forward, and success will follow.
