WHY I COACH
Zoe Korman, Memorial High School
How long have you been coaching? Where did your career begin? What College or university did you attend?
I have been coaching for 8 years. My coaching career began with Special Olympic and Unified sports in Chicago. I attended DePaul University.
Why do you coach? Why flag football?
I wanted to coach Girls Flag because I love the impact football can have on athletes. As a former athlete, I know that being part of a team is much more than just the game. I want to give my athletes the sense of confidence, discipline and belonging to grow both on and off the field. I strive to create an environment where athletes feel supported while also being challenged to reach their full potential.
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
Of course, being competitive and winning games is rewarding especially if that includes playing at the Texans stadium for playoffs! Although, I think the most rewarding part is seeing girls be part of the football community. I also love seeing the development of the program, it's the beginning but we are establishing something strong that will last for years.
Why is the growth of girls flag football important to you?
Growing Girls Flag is so important because it will create way more opportunities for our athletes especially as it expands to the college level and opens doors for scholarship opportunities. Girls Flag is breaking down barriers and showing that playing and coaching football is for everyone. This is just the start, and my athletes are paving the way for the next generations through their hard work, showing that this will be something even bigger.
