Meet Coach Tate DeMasco | Coach of the Week

Week 1

School: Tom Moore High School

Years Coaching: 23

Please share how your football program supported your local community following the July 4th flooding tragedy?

  • Our football players and coaches supported the community in many ways after July 4th. Coaches delivered meals throughout the county. Helped clean up houses and helped local people with their needs. Our football team helped in the community, ran heavy machinery to help clean up efforts; we also had several of our football players on the search and rescue teams.

How long have you been coaching? Where did your career begin? College\university you attended?

  • This is my 23rd year coaching, I started my career at John Jay High School in San Antonio.
  • I attended Lubbock Christian University and was a member of the baseball team

Why do you coach?

  • I coach because I love what I do. I grew up as a coaches son. Being a part of that growing up showed me the impact that you can make on athletes and the community. I watched my dad for years coach and saw the influence he had on others. I do this today because I want to see kids become successful in many ways after high school. It's a true blessing to be in this profession.

What is the most rewarding\fulfilling part of your job?

  • Having kids come back after 10 years and telling you thank you for everything you did. Watching kids you coached becoming leaders in the community.

In your opinion, what is the most misunderstood thing about the coaching profession?

  • The amount of time we spend behind the scenes trying to put our kids in a position to be successful. All the extra layers that we do to help families within our program that have extra needs.
