Houston Texans Foundation
Champions for Youth
The Foundation was established in 2002 to benefit under-served children in our community. The Foundation strives to be CHAMPIONS FOR YOUTH and each year hosts a variety of successful fundraising events to support that mission. Each event gives fans a unique opportunity to interact with players, Cheerleaders, staff, TORO and Legends, while also creating awareness for important causes. Despite the many challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, Texans fans helped make 2020–2021 a big year, as the Foundation raised more than $1.6 million to benefit the Greater Houston area.
Virtual Kickoff Luncheon Presented by Amegy Bank
The annual Kickoff Luncheon was reimagined as a virtual event in 2020. The virtual luncheon gave Texans fans the opportunity to prepare for the upcoming season from anywhere. Fans heard from the Texans head coach, players and Legends, as well as national celebrities such as Sam Ponder, Simone Biles, Pat McAfee and Simone Manuel. The annual Spirit of the Bull award was given to DB Justin Reid, with a special video announcement from Elaytreis, Justin's friend and a Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston member. The virtual luncheon raised nearly $100,000 for the Foundation.
The Foundation hosted the 50/50 Jackpot in 2020, giving Texans fans the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets at each home game and win half of the jackpot, while the other half supported the Foundation and our Champions for Youth initiatives. Despite the many challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and limited games, Texans fans raised nearly $185,000 for the Foundation.
Virtual Running of the Bulls Presented by H-E-B
In 2020, the Foundation hosted our annual Running of the Bulls 5K Run/ Walk virtually. The virtual race allowed Texans fans from across the country to participate in either the 5K or the TORO's Kids 1K presented by Texas Children's Hospital. The virtual race raised more than $84,000, and all participants received a packet that included a finisher medal, a T-shirt, a bib and more.
Texans Care for Texans Presented by Kroger
To help combat growing hunger insecurity throughout Houston during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Foundation hosted the Texans Care for Texans campaign, a citywide effort benefiting the Houston Food Bank. The initiative was launched in the lead-up to the Texans Thanksgiving Day game against the Detroit Lions. The goal of the campaign was to provide half a million meals to Houstonians in need during the holiday season, with Kroger kicking off the campaign by donating 250,000 meals. Because of the generosity of Texans fans, the campaign was able to raise more than 530,000 meals for local families.
In 2020, the Foundation moved all auctions online. Nearly $75,000 was raised through the online auctions, which were hosted in conjunction with Texans home games. Auction items included one-of-a-kind autographed memorabilia as well as unique Texans experiences.
Donation of Autographed Items
Each year, the Texans are proud to support nonprofits throughout the Houston area by donating autographed items to use at fundraising events. This year, more than 200 organizations received donations.
Charity Golf Classic Presented by BMW
The annual Charity Golf Classic provides guests with an exclusive opportunity to mingle with Texans celebrities and Cheerleaders while enjoying a round of golf at the exclusive River Oaks Country Club. The event is preceded by the Texans Insider Dinner, which took place virtually in 2021, where sponsors had the opportunity to hear insider remarks from Texans General Manager Nick Caserio just days after his first NFL Draft as a Texan. This year's event raised more than $350,000 for the Foundation.
Houston Texans Fan Zone Presented by Houston Methodist
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Texans allowed fans and staff members to purchase custom cardboard cutouts to be "seated" in the stands at Texans home games. In addition, the Texans donated more than 300 fan cutouts to first responders, frontline heroes, breast cancer survivors, service members, patients from Texas Children's Hospital and more. This initiative benefited the Foundation and was able to generate an additional $5,000 to further our Champions for Youth efforts.
Cameo for a Cause Presented by Chevron
To give fans a unique and personal opportunity to engage with Texans personalities during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Foundation hosted Cameo for a Cause during the summer of 2020. Cameo is a platform that allows fans to purchase a custom video message for any occasion. The Foundation's initiative featured Texans celebrities, including TORO and Cheerleaders, and was able to raise nearly $6,000 for the Foundation.
All In Challenge
The Texans donated an exclusive gameday experience to the All In Challenge, a fundraiser started by Fanatics to raise money to battle food insecurity brought on by COVID-19. The Texans auction package included serving as the Coin Toss Captain at a regular-season home game and standing alongside the Texans team captains, being on the sidelines for the opening kickoff and watching the game from the president's private suite. The Texans All In Challenge package raised $13,000 for COVID relief.
