The Houston Texans and Bud Light will do anything for the fans!

… including pouring the first-ever beer in space, alongside launching 1,000 Bud Light cans (dubbed Bud Light UFOs, Unidentified Fermented Objects) and bringing them back to Earth for fans to collect during our Space City presented by Bud Light game in Week 18 of the regular NFL season. Yeah, we're not kidding.

You may have seen the 10-ft-tall Bud Light can that crash-landed in Hermann Park this week — well, that was just the teaser! The Texans and Bud Light have teamed up with stratospheric launch experts Sent Into Space Ltd for the "Cosmic Pour"— the world's first beer poured in exposed space. Not even the experts can predict the outcome, but there's only one way to find out!

The countdown is on… Tune in to our channels Monday, December 22 for the results of the historic Cosmic Pour! Plus, keep reading to learn about the science behind the mission and how you can claim one of the 1,000 chilled-by-space Bud Light UFOs that journeyed from the cosmos and back… just for fans!

What will happen when the first-ever beer is poured in space?

A beer has never been poured in space before, which means we're heading straight into the unknown.

Even with months of planning, the mission itself is full of variables no one can fully control. The environment up there is extreme and unforgiving:

  • Will the can explode from low pressure?
  • Freeze solid in the subzero temperatures?
  • Froth wildly… or not react at all?

We won't know what truly happens until the spacecraft returns and the cameras show the moment for the very first time.

Science Behind the Mission

Two spacecraft were designed in preparation for this project and are set to enter space via space-capable balloon systems, which will expand to be bigger than a large house at peak altitude:

  • Spacecraft designed for Cosmic Pour – Consisting of a robotic astronaut arm and Bud Light glass programmed to initiate a pour in exposed space.
  • Spacecraft designed for 1,000 Bud Light UFOs – Stripped-down vessels designed to carry as many Bud Light cans as possible. Forty-two cases of Bud Light cans are being sent to space.

Challenges of Space Conditions:

  • Altitude: 40 km
  • Temperature: Reaching -70°C
  • Pressure: Approaching zero atmosphere
  • Humidity: Virtually 0%

Engineering to Protect Technology:

  • Thermal management devices
  • Pressure regulation systems
  • Bespoke flight computer monitoring all flight conditions and controlling all pieces of technology on board
