André Davis: Seizing the opportunity

Hey fans, André Davis here with an update on myself and the team through four OTA practices.

With Andre Johnson out for OTAs, I've been getting a lot more reps with the first team. It's very valuable. It's kind of like how it was last year when Andre went down: I had to make sure I knew what I was doing, that I could step in. So any time you get a chance to get out there and get more reps, it's always going to help you out.

Everybody among the wide receivers is stepping up right now. I think whenever you get an opportunity, we're all very competitive, so when we see our buddy doing well, we want to make sure that we're hanging out with him, too. Everybody's making plays. In the running game, everybody's trying to learn more and trying to get better there, and in the passing game, we're all just working hard at it.

There's a lot of competition, but that's what football is about. Right now, Andre and Kevin Walter are probably the only safe guys. Everybody else, it's fair game, so we've just got to make sure we go out there and continue to work hard.

Even though Andre's not on the field with us, he's definitely helping out the younger guys, the rookies that we have and the new guys that are in here right now. He's trying to help them out as much as he can.

I heard coach Kubiak say something nice about me to the media the other day. That feels good, but I try not to focus on it too much, you know. I appreciate the comments, but I know I have to continue to go out there and work hard every single day and make sure I don't rest on what I've done so far. I want to do even more than that this year.

Other than that, I've been around my new son Daylen a lot and I've been loving it. That just puts another aspect on being able to come out here and realize that I have another mouth to feed, and I want to make sure that I'm working as hard as I can so he's got some highlights to watch later on.

I'm pining to get home to see him every day I'm here at work. I mean, I love the guys to death here and stuff, but at the same time, my son and my wife come first, and so a lot of times I just want to be able to get home so I can play with him when he's up because he's sleeping a lot, so I just want to make sure I'm there for him when he gets up.

It's been a great offseason for our team so far, though, and the good thing about it is it's only going to get better the more we're out here with one another.

Thanks for stopping by.
