Back from the Bye | Daily Brew

During the off week, l like to rest, recharge and replenish – and there's no better way to do that than to watch more football!

I do this by consuming RedZone. The non-stop-every-game-live-action-NFL-channel is the most addictive media I think I've ever experienced.

On a Sunday when there's no Texans game, I often make the mistake of thinking, 'I'm going to watch about ten minutes of RedZone then do some work around the yard.'

About seven hours later, I need a forklift to remove my body from the couch. There are no commercials. There's never even a good time to run to the restroom.

The notable games for me were the Colts hosting the Jags and the next Texans' opponent, Tennessee, hosting New Orleans. The Titans aren't running the ball well without Derrick Henry but they are opportunistic and are playing better defense than earlier in the season.

Jeffery Simmons, who knocked down a key two-point conversion pass against the Texans last year in Nashville, is on fire with five sacks in the last two games. The Titans have five consecutive wins against playoff teams from the previous year, an NFL record.

Jacksonville had the ball late but was strip-sacked during a final drive bid to beat the Colts. The Jags were going for win number three. The Colts have five wins which is right in the thick of the Wild Card hunt. The expanded playoff field yields a lot of opportunities.

The Texans yearn to be a part of it and right now are aching to get that elusive second win and take it from there. Missed opportunities and mistakes have plagued this team to a 1-8 start. The final stretch features five dates at home and four games against teams with losing records.

None of that matters unless Houston runs the ball better, reduces turnovers and cuts down on penalties. Perhaps the off week gives them a little extra boost going up to Nashville to take on a top rival and the top team in the AFC. We'll be ready to cover all of it.

The next time you can see the Texans at NRG Stadium will be on November 28 as they host the New York Jets in Week 12. Kickoff is set for noon CT. Click here for tickets.
