The Houston Texans saw production from numerous rookies this sea- son, as 11 appeared in at least one game, while four made starts. In ad- dition, two rookies (CB Kevin Johnson and WR Keith Mumphery) played
in all 16 games this season. Below is a summary of some of the contribu- tions of this year's rookie class:
NT CHRISTIAN COVINGTON - Appeared in 15 games and ranks tied
for fifth on the team with 2.0 sacks and four tackles for loss. Made his
first career sack in Week 10 at Cincinnati (11/16) and his other sack on
the final play of the regular season in Week 17 vs. Jacksonville (1/3/16).
CB KEVIN JOHNSON - Appeared in all 16 games, making 10 starts,
and finished third on the team with nine passes defensed, which also
ranked tied for fourth in the NFL among rookies. Recorded his first ca- reer interception and two tackles for loss in Week 8 vs. Tennessee (11/1).
T KENDALL LAMM - Appeared in 15 games (four starts) and made his
first career start in Week 5 against Indianapolis (10/8).
ILB BENARDRICK McKINNEY - Appeared in 14 games, making 11
starts, and recorded 58 tackles (35 solo), seven tackles for loss, 1.0
sack, two quarterback hits and five special teams stops. Posted a ca- reer-high nine tackles, including one for loss, in Week 10 at Cincinnati
(11/16). Notched his first career sack in Week 15 at Indianapolis (12/20).
Posted two tackles for loss in Weeks 15 and 16.
WR KEITH MUMPHERY - Appeared in all 16 games, making three
starts, and caught 14 passes for 129 yards. Finished fifth among NFL
rookies in punt return average (7.8).
WR JAELEN STRONG - Recorded the third-most receiving touch- downs by a rookie in franchise history (three). Tied for seventh among
NFL rookies in receiving touchdowns. Caught all three of his touchdowns
in two games against the Colts
