BWTB: Cushing will "be ready"

He didn't practice with his teammates this spring.

The last time he had the pads on in a game was October 20.

But Brian Cushing's not worried.

"I know I'll be ready," the inside linebacker said on Tuesday evening. "I know when it's go-time, and I need to ramp it up and get on the field, I'll be there."

The 2011 team MVP had his 2013 cut short in a Week 7 loss at Kansas City. A right leg injury submarined his season, and he's been on the rehab trail since. While he wouldn't put a specific time on when he'd return to the practice field, he maintained his confidence in 2014.

"I'm still working out every day," Cushing said. "I'm just trying to be the best I can possibly be, come time for the camp. Come time for the season. The training staff's done an unbelievable job."

Cushing's interception return for a touchdown in the Week 1 win at San Diego was one of few highlights in the 2013 team's 2-14 campaign. It came after he missed the final 11 games of 2012, when he injured his left anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in a Monday night win over the Jets. Cushing is ready for good things this autumn.

"It's been a tough two years, but I'm ready to put it behind me and have a great year," Cushing said. "I feel good, and I'm just excited about the opportunity and the things ahead of us for this team."

Cushing and the Texans will begin training camp later this month.
