BWTB: Who's Number Two?

Who's Number Two?

Naturally, the question thrown at me the most often this off season is "who are the Texans going to take number one?"

My stock answer is "I don't know." Because, well, I don't.

I'm not even sure the men in charge do at this point. They've been digging into last season's video 'all-22,' evaluating their own players and potential free agents.

The league year is about to begin and cuts will come down. The Texans will shop for players to fit the O'Brien-Crennel schemes and get ready for draft strategy.

All this leads to a another question I keeping getting, "what's the second biggest team need?"

A glance at the roster reveals an easy answer: defensive line.

Think about it. Antonio Smith and Earl Mitchell are free agents. Never mind if they do or do not fit in the 'Romeo 3-4.' They are NOT under contract. In order to simply field a team you need bodies up front. That's why I put Dee Ford from Auburn in the second round of my 'VanderMock' Texans Draft.

A lot of you are thinking right now that the above information necessitates a Clowney grab at number one. Even if that happens, the Texans will still be heavy in the market for multi-layered depth chart help at nose tackle and both end positions.

The next group that needs bodies is inside linebacker. Yes, Brian Cushing is coming back. But Daryl Sharpton and Joe Mays are unrestricted free agents. And this position bunch hasn't exactly been the picture of health in the last four years so it certainly needs major attention.

With free agency starting Tuesday, we'll start getting our first good look at how the 2014 Texans acquisitions will shape this team. Happy hunting!
