Just desserts

EDITOR'S NOTE: This entry was first published on Monday, Sept. 10, 2007.

It's only fitting that after such a dominating performance, defensive end Mario Williams receives some love from the national media. And already, less than 24 hours after his two-sack, one-touchdown performance, Williams has been recognized.

Sports Illustrated's Peter King named Williams his Defensive Player of the Week along with Indianapolis Colts linebacker Freddie Keiaho in his popular "Monday Morning Quarterback" article on SI.com.

Said King: "The defensive end is off to a good start. He had two sacks, five tackles, a 38-yard fumble returned for touchdown, and three quarterback pressures on Sunday. Don't plan that ticker-tape parade for Charley Casserly (you remember the man who picked Williams) just yet, but Williams had, by far, a better first game than either (Reggie) Bush or (Vince) Young."

I'll keep track of other awards Williams wins this week in the blog. To listen to Williams' reaction after the game, click here to watch his exclusive post-game interview with Texans TV reporter Nate Griffin, and his post-game presser. Also, HoustonTexans.com contributing writer Jim Carley wrote an excellent sidebar on Williams.

A quick update, Mario needs your help to land GMC Defensive Player of the Week honors. Click **here** to vote today!

Also, I just learned that Mario has been named the AP NFL Player of the Week, which is another great honor.

Let's keep it going.
