WR Nico Collins growing, turns in career-best performance | Daily Brew

Nico Collins continues to show promise.

The rookie receiver caught four passes for 55 yards in the Texans loss to the Rams on Sunday at NRG Stadium. The four catches tied his career-high, and the 55 yards were the most of his young career.

Collins' first reception of the day was a 26-yarder in the second quarter. He also pulled in a 15-yarder to get the Texans into field goal range with two seconds remaining in the first half. Following the intermission, he had a pair of seven-yard catches. All but his final reception helped Houston's offense pick up a first down.

In four of the five games he's played this season, Collins has caught a pass for 18 yards or more. Texans Head Coach David Culley explained a week ago that the 2021 third-round pick is right on schedule in terms of development.

"He's doing exactly what we expected from him," Culley said. "Hopefully, as we move forward, he becomes more involved in doing the things we want him to do. As we get better offensively, all across the board, people we start play better and be better for us."

Fellow rookie TE Brevin Jordan made big contributions in Sunday's game and said Monday that he and Collins, along with rookie QB Davis Mills have a tight bond.

"We're all very close," Jordan said. "The rookie class that we have is very close because I feel like we all feel like we're sleepers. Guys have their own opinions on the draft process and stuff, but we feel like we're all sleepers, and we're trying to just help this team grow."

If Jordan, who caught three balls for 41 yards and a score, and Collins can continue to be reliable options for Mills, the Texans offense should indeed grow.

Collins and the Texans face the Dolphins on Sunday in Miami.

The next time you can see the Texans at NRG Stadium will be on November 28 as they host the New York Jets in Week 12. Kickoff is set for noon CT. Click here for tickets.
