Ex-Texans TE Bruener joins the scouting world

Former Texans and Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Mark Bruener has joined the Steelers' staff as a college scout, the Steelers **announced today**.

Bruener, who finished his career with the Texans from 2004-08, was a Steelers first-round draft pick in 1995. He spent nine seasons in Pittsburgh from 1995-2003 and was a training camp intern in the Steelers' scouting department this offseason.

In 63 games with the Texans (31 starts), Bruener had 15 catches for 136 yards and two touchdowns. He won the team's Spirit of the Bull Award, which is given to the Texans player who exemplifies character, leadership and sportsmanship, for four consecutive seasons from 2005-08. It was re-named the Mark Bruener Award in 2009.
