Football season... it's finally here

The Texans have had their sights set on today's game all offseason. Back in July, we got the training camp schedule that was distributed to coaches and staff. That calendar was full of events leading up today but had nothing after it. Last week, two large signs were placed above the extis to both ends of the Texans' locker room that read "Our focus" next to a picture of a Jets helmet. OTAs, mini-camp, training camp, the preseason - all are great times to speculate about the season, and all were a tune-up for the game that's kicking off 90 mintues from now at noon CT.

I'll be blogging from my usual spot in the press box from now until the end of the game. The stands are still empty at Reliant Stadium, but they won't be for long as fans are starting to file in. CBS has sent in its No. 1 crew of Jim Nantz and Phil Simms to call today's game, which will be broadcast in 70 percent of the country.

You can bet the Texans will be throwing plenty of pressure in the direction of rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez, the first Jets rookie ever to start on opening day. Stopping the Jets' potent rushing attack will be another one of the **keys to the game** for the Texans after the team struggled in run defense during the preseason.

I'll check back in shortly with the game inactives and lineup changes. Before I go, I've got to give props to my USC Trojans for their **thrilling 18-15 victory over Ohio State** at the Horseshoe last night. **Not a bad second game** for 19-year-old freshman Matt Barkley.
