Game Notes: Texans vs. Jaguars, Week 9

THE TEXANS…

• Improved their record to 25-13 against the Jaguars in franchise history

• Matched the longest win streak in franchise history against the Jaguars (six in 2014-16)

• Beat the Jaguars twice in the same season for the 10th time in franchise history

• Improved QB Deshaun Watson's career record to 6-1 against the Jaguars

• Made Interim Head Coach Romeo Crennel the second coach in NFL history to win at least two games as an interim head coach for two different teams (Joe Vitt, 2005 Rams and 2012 Saints)

• Improved their record to 12-2 against rookie starting quarterbacks since 2014. Houston has 28 sacks and 13 interceptions in those 14 games

• Improved their record to 5-2 following their bye week since 2014

• Scored a touchdown on their opening offensive drive for the first time this season

• Notched multiple completions of at least 50 yards for the first time since Week 8 of 2017 against Seattle

• Recorded the longest play from scrimmage (77 yards) since RB Lamar Miller rushed for a 97-yard touchdown in Week 12 of 2018 against Tennessee

• Committed only three penalties for 15 yards, which marked the fewest since Week 4 of 2020 against Minnesota. The team now has two games this season with three-or-fewer penalties, which is the most since the 2018 season

• Scored a touchdown on 98-yard drive, which was the longest by the team since Week 6 of 2015 against Jacksonville (99 yards) and tied for the third-longest drive in franchise history

• Notched 154 net yards in the first quarter, which was the most by Houston since Week 8 of 2017 against Seattle. The Texans also recorded their longest play in the first quarter (57 yards) since the same contest (59 yards)

• Compiled two sacks and four quarterback hits, which marked the sixth game with at least two sacks this season

• Gained 374 total net yards (107 rushing, 267 passing) and 19 first downs (seven rushing, 10 passing, two by penalty)

• Held the Jaguars to 6-for-14 on third-down attempts (42.8 percent), 0-for-1 on fourth-down attempts (0.0 percent) and 2-of-3 on red zone trips (66.7 percent)

• Held the opposition to less than 43.0 percent on third downs for the third time this season and the first time since Week 4 against Minnesota

• Stopped the Jaguars' two-point conversion late in the fourth quarter, which was the first time the Texans have denied a two-point conversion since Week 13 of 2019 against New England

• Recovered Jacksonville's onside kick with 1:30 left in the fourth quarter, which was the first recovery of an opposition's onside kick since Week 15 of 2019 against Tennessee. The Texans have recovered 14 opposition onside kicks in a row, dating back to Week 8 of 2014

SCORING PLAYS

• 1st Quarter – WR Brandin Cooks caught a 57-yard touchdown pass from QB Deshaun Watson to complete a two-play, 75-yard opening drive (0:35) to tie the game at 7-7 after K Ka'imi Fairbairn made the extra point attempt

• 1st Quarter – K Ka'imi Fairbairn connected on a 54-yard field attempt to complete a six play, 45-yard drive (2:45) and give Houston a 10-7 lead

• 2nd Quarter – K Ka'imi Fairbairn made a 30-yard field goal attempt following a 14-play, 59-yard (6:01) and extend the Texans' lead to 13-7

• 2nd Quarter – RB Duke Johnson scored on a one-yard run to finish off a six-play, 98-yard drive (1:44) and give Houston a 20-13 lead after K Ka'imi Fairbairn made the extra point attempt

• 3rd Quarter – WR Will Fuller V caught a 77-yard touchdown pass from QB Deshaun Watson to complete a three-play, 81-yard drive (1:21) and extend the Texans' lead to 27-13 after K Ka'imi Fairbairn made the extra point attempt

• The following four Texans players were inactive for the game: WR Isaiah Coulter, ILB Kyle Emanuel, T Charlie Heck and CB Bradley Roby

ILB TYRELL ADAMS

• Matched his career high with 12 total tackles (six solo), tying the same total he had in Week 5 vs. Jacksonville

• Totaled the third game of his career with double-digit tackles (Week 5 and Week 7) and posted double-digit tackles in back-to-back games for the first time in his NFL career

• Recorded four-consecutive games with at least six total tackles for the first time in his career

P BRYAN ANGER

• Punted five times for 223 yards (44.6 avg.), including a long of 61 yards, and pinned three punts inside the 20

• Registered at least three punts inside the 20 yard line for the first time this season

• Passed Matt Turk for the 10th-most punts inside the 20-yard line in NFL history through his first nine seasons (223)

WR BRANDIN COOKS

• Finished with three receptions for 83 yards (27.7 avg.)

• Caught a 57-yard touchdown pass from QB Deshaun Watson on their opening drive to tie the game at 7-7

• Grabbed his third touchdown reception as a member of the Texans and the 37th of his NFL career (2014-20)

• Posted his longest reception (57 yards) since Week 2 of the 2019 season vs. New Orleans (57 yards)

• Owns nine receiving touchdowns of at least 50 yards in his NFL career, which marks the fourth most since 2014

• Became the fourth player with at least one 50-yard reception in each season since 2016, joining Texans WR Will Fuller V, Cowboys WR Amari Cooper and Panthers WR Robby Anderson

CB KEION CROSSEN

• Notched two total tackles (one solo) and one special teams tackle and leads the team with seven this season, which tie a single-season career high

• Recovered an onside kick from the Jaguars to clinch the game in the fourth quarter

ILB ZACH CUNNINGHAM

• Recorded seven total tackles (five solo) and logged one tackle for loss, one quarterback hit, 1.0 sack and one pass defensed

• Sacked Jaguars QB Jake Luton for a loss of seven yards at the 50-yard line in the second quarter on 2nd-and-10

• Logged his single-season career-high third sack of the season and now owns 6.5 career sacks

• Passed Bernard Pollard (74) for the most total tackles by a Texans player in the first eight games of a season

• Joined Benardrick McKinney as the only players in franchise history with at least 70 total tackles and 3.0 sacks within the first eight games of a season

• Passed Dunta Robinson (396) for the eighth-most in franchise history

• Recorded his first pass defensed of the season and his first since Week 16 of 2019 at Tampa Bay

• Registered his fourth tackle for loss of the season and the 18th of his NFL career

• Totaled four total tackles, 1.0 sack and a pass defensed in the first half, becoming only the seventh player in Texans history to do so in the opening half. He was the first to do so since Jadeveon Clowney in Week 16 of 2018

• Surpassed 400 total tackles in his career

K KA'IMI FAIRBAIRN

• Scored nine points on two made field goals and three made extra point attempts

• Connected on a 54-yard field goal, which was tied for the second-longest of his career and the longest since Week 14 of 2019 against Denver

• Made a 30-yard field goal attempt in the second quarter to extend the Texans' lead to 13-7

• Eclipsed 400 points scored in his career, becoming the third Texan to do so (Kris Brown and Arian Foster)

• Has not missed on a field goal attempt from within 40 yards since 2017

• Owns the third-most points scored in franchise history

WR WILL FULLER V

• Finished with five receptions for 100 yards (20.0 avg.) and one receiving touchdown

• Caught a 77-yard touchdown pass from QB Deshaun Watson in the third quarter to extend the Texans' lead to 27-13. The reception was the longest by a Texans player since Week 10 of 2011 (Jacoby Jones, 80 yards)

• Registered the longest play of his NFL career (77 yards), surpassing his 73-yard catch in Week 8 of 2018 vs. Miami

• Notched his 12th game with at least 100 receiving yards, which is the third-most in franchise history

• Caught his sixth touchdown of the season and now owns 22 touchdowns in his NFL career (2016-20)

• Has logged 20 touchdown receptions from QB Deshaun Watson in 30 games played together

• Set the franchise record for the most consecutive games with a touchdown reception (six)

• Became the only player in the NFL in the past two seasons with a touchdown reception in six consecutive games

• Remains only the wide receiver and four NFL player with over 16 receiving touchdowns on less than 220 targets since 2017, joining Darren Fells, Mark Andrews and Cameron Brate

• Tied for the third-most receiving touchdowns (six) by a Texans player within the first eight games of a season

OLB JONATHAN GREENARD

• Recorded three total tackles (one solo), which were the first three of his NFL career

CB VERNON HARGREAVES III

• Finished with three total tackles (two solo), one interception and one pass defensed

• Intercepted a pass from Jaguars QB Jake Luton in the third quarter on 3rd-and-5 at the Texans' 19-yard line

• Logged his first interception as a member of the Texans and his first since Week 1 of 2019 vs. San Francisco

• Tied for the team lead with his fifth pass defensed of the season (Bradley Roby)

• Registered his third career interception and 26th career pass defensed (2016-20)

RB DUKE JOHNSON

• Ran for a season-high 41 yards on 16 carries (2.6 avg.)

• Caught four passes for 32 yards (8.0 avg.)

• Scored a one-yard rushing touchdown in the second quarter to give Houston a 20-13 lead, which marked his first rushing touchdown since Week 17 of 2019 against Tennessee

• Owns the third-most receptions (293), second-most receiving yards (2,689), third-most receiving first downs (125) and second-most receptions of at least 20 yards (31) by an NFL running back since 2015

S LONNIE JOHNSON JR.

• Finished with a season-high six solo tackles and one tackles for loss

• Tied for the second most total tackles in a game in his career

• Registered his first career tackle for loss

S JUSTIN REID

• Recorded six total tackles (five solo), including one on fourth down to stop Jaguars RB James Robinson and turn the ball over on downs in the fourth quarter

QB DESHAUN WATSON

• Completed 19-of-32 passes (59.4 percent) for 281 yards, two touchdowns, zero interceptions and a 109.0 rating

• Ran for 50 yards on 10 carries (5.0 avg.), which marked his most since Week 17 of 2018 against Jacksonville (66)

• Threw a 57-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter to WR Brandin Cooks to tie the game at 7-7, which was his longest passing touchdown since Week 8 of 2018 against Miami (73 yards)

• Completed a 77-yard touchdown pass to WR Will Fuller V in the third quarter to extend the Texans' lead to 27-13. The pass was the longest completion by a Texans quarterback since Week 10 of 2011 (Matt Schaub, 80 yards)

• Became the eighth quarterback in NFL history with at least 250 passing yards and one touchdown in each of the first eight games of a season. He is the first player in franchise history to accomplish this feat and it is also the longest streak in franchise history

• Notched his sixth-straight game with a passer rating of at least 100.0, which is a career-best and franchise record

• Posted his sixth-consecutive game with multiple touchdown passes, which marks the longest streak in franchise history and longest streak of his NFL career

• Notched his sixth game with multiple touchdown passes this season and 27th of his career, which marks the second-most in team history

• Threw his 20th touchdown pass to WR Will Fuller V in 30 games played together

• Owns 17 touchdown passes this season, which are the second-most through eight games in franchise history (Watson, 19 in 2017), and now has 88 in his NFL career (2017-20)

• Owns the most passing yards by a Texans player in the first eight games of a season, surpassing Matt Schaub (2,342)

• Owns the fourth-most passing touchdowns (88) and seventh-most passing yards (12,092) by a quarterback in their first 46 career games

• Strip-sacked Jaguars QB Jake Luton for a loss of seven yards in the fourth quarter

• Owns a team-leading 4.0 sacks this season and a franchise-record 100.0 career sacks, which is the second-most in the NFL since 2011

• Became the 35th player in NFL history to total 100.0 career sacks

• Became the first player in Texans history to reach 100.0 career sacks

• Became only the fourth player in NFL history to record at least 100.0 sacks in 120 games-or-less (DeMarcus Ware, Reggie White and Bruce Smith)

• Became the first player in NFL history with 100.0 sacks and multiple 20.0 sack seasons

• Became the first player in NFL history with at least 150 career tackles for loss and 100.0 sacks in their first 120 games
