The Texans square off against the reigning Super Bowl champs for the third time in 11 months. Houston won the regular season matchup last October, 31-24. The Chiefs took the playoff bout, 51-31.

This will be the 11th regular season contest between the two franchises. Each team has won five matchups in the series. Kansas City has been victorious in the two playoff games the teams have played.t

The Texans are 2-1 all-time at Arrowhead Stadium in the regular season.i

This is the first time in franchise history Houston will open the NFL regular season with the League's first game, as the two squads will play on Thursday Night Football at Arrowhead Stadium.

A trio of Texans spent portions of their careers in Kansas City. Right guard Zach Fulton and cornerback Phillip Gaines each played for the Chiefs from 2014-2017. Safety Eric Murray was in Kansas City from 2016-2018.r

Kansas City has a pair of former Texans on their team, with safety Tyrann Mathieu (2018) and offensive lineman Martinas Rankin (2017-18). e

Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes and Texans QB Deshaun Watson were selected two picks apart in the first round of the  2017 NFL Draft, with Mahomes going 10th overall and Watson 12th. Both teams traded up to pick each player.

Texans safety Jaylen Watkins and Chiefs receiver Sammy Watkins are brothers.R

As a rookie last October, defensive lineman Charles Omenihu came up with a key strip-sack that led to a touchdown in the Texans win.
