John Simon TD gets Texans on scoreboard first

John Simon's time in the 40 Sunday night was just fast enough.

The Texans outside linebacker picked up a fumble forced by Vince Wilfork and Christian Covington, then gallopped 41 yards for a score. After Nick Novak's extra point, the Texans up 7-0 with 11:33 left in the first quarter.

"I heard a loud collision and just saw the ball laying there with some open field," Simon said. "So I picked it up and just tried to run as fast I could."

With a convoy of blockers, Simon coasted into the end zone. He joked afterward, though, that the score

left him a little winded.

"I was exhausted," Simon said. "Football game shape is something different than practice shape, so that's something we're going to build on."

Simon finished with two tackles in the win.

The Texans will practice on Tuesday in Houston, and they'll host the Saints on Saturday night at NRG Stadium.
