Meet Coach Elizabeth Boulden | Coach of the Week

Week 4

School: Americas High School

Years Coaching: 17

How long have you been coaching? Where did your career begin? College\university you attended?

  • I have been coaching for about 17 years. I began my coaching career while I was in high school when I had the opportunity to coach basketball and softball for an after-school program at a local middle school. With this first experience, it was incredibly rewarding as I witnessed their progress week-by-week. Initially, I began as a softball coach at a high school and now I am currently coaching basketball and flag football. I attended Sul Ross University and the University of Texas at El Paso and studied Kinesiology with a minor in education and received my Master's in Sports Administration.

Why do you coach?

  • Coaching is not just a job for me; it's a way of life. I decided to coach flag football to help a girls' program grow and to offer something different from the more typical sports like basketball and volleyball.

What is the most rewarding\fulfilling part of your job?

  • The most fulfilling part of my job is watching the girls improve each day. Each athlete brings her own uniqueness to the sport, and seeing their joy when they grasp a new concept is truly rewarding.

In your opinion, what is the significance of the growth of girl's flag football?

  • I believe that the growth of girls' flag football is significant because it gives young women the opportunity to experience and learn not only a different sport but branch out and grasp a different aspect in life. It allows them to learn a new sport and to showcase their athletic talents from other sports and their ability to transition quickly to flag football. Thanks to the various organizations that support the development of these programs and the backing from several NFL teams, like the Houston Texans, it has been essential in helping us not only fund our program but give these young women new opportunities.
