OFFICIAL: Texans sign S Tyrann Mathieu

The Houston Texans signed unrestricted free agent S Tyrann Mathieu. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Mathieu, 25, started 57-of-66 regular season games played over five seasons with the Arizona Cardinals (2013-17), compiling 303 total tackles (278 solo), 11 interceptions, 41 passes defensed, 28 tackles for loss, 15 quarterback hits, 4.0 sacks, four forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. He was named Associated Press First-Team All-Pro and selected to his first Pro Bowl in 2015 after registering 89 total tackles (80 solo), 1.0 sack, five interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown, 17 passes defensed, 11 tackles for loss and a forced fumble in 14 regular season games played. Last season, Mathieu started all 16 games for the Cardinals and recorded 74 total tackles (66 solo), seven passes defensed, two interceptions, six tackles for loss, four quarterback hits and one forced fumble. In his career, he has been named NFL Defensive Rookie of the Month (October of 2013), NFC Defensive Player of the Month (November of 2015) and NFC Defensive Player of the Week (Week 3 of 2015). He also won the Cardinals' Ed Block Courage Award in 2014 following his return from a knee injury suffered late in his rookie season in 2013. Mathieu (5-9, 185) was drafted by Arizona in the third round (69th overall) of the 2013 NFL Draft out of LSU.
