The Texans hired Frank Bush, the former senior defensive assistant, to be the defensive coordinator on Tuesday. Bush talked to Texans TV's Brooke Bentley about bringing a new identity to the team's defense.

Brooke Bentley (Texans TV): Frank, congratulations on the promotion. What are you thought on becoming the Texans defensive coordinator?

Frank Bush: It's really exciting. It's a dream job for me. It's something that I always wanted to do. I'm in a big-time city. You know, Houston is where I kind of cut my teeth playing with the Oilers, and now to come back here and have the opportunity to run this defense, I'm really excited.

{QUOTE}Brooke Bentley: The Texans talked to Rod Marinelli, but it seemed like you were the man for the job. Talk about the selection process.

Frank Bush: It was a situation where the McNairs wanted to bring people in and kind of talk to them and interview different candidates. I was a candidate myself. I had an advantage because I had been in the building, but it was just a process of going through different guys and trying to find the right fit for the team. Fortunately, I was able to come away with it.

Brooke Bentley: You are familiar with the Texans' 4-3 scheme, but talk about the new identity you want to bring to this defense.

Frank Bush: I want our kids to be an attacking bunch. I want those guys to run around and play with passion, have a good time playing the football game, and play really, really fast and create a lot of turnovers. Aggressive, passionate and attacking football players is what you want.

Brooke Bentley: I saw you bring out the passion in some of those players like Mario Williams. Do you think it was an advantage that you knew those players already?

Frank Bush: Continuity is important. When you look at what we have done on offense with the way those guys are moving the ball and the way they are clicking right now, you want to come in on defense and have somebody who knew the players – knew which buttons to push to get these guys going. I figured with me and the guys that remain here, we can do that. We can take this thing to the next level on defense, which will hopefully push us towards the post season.

Brooke Bentley: What do you think the Texans need to do to get to the next level with their defense?

Frank Bush: I think, again, we just have to get everybody on the same page. Everybody has got to know what each other is doing, get guys running around and having fun playing football. But more than anything, be on the same page and communicate and make sure everybody in on the same page and have a good time playing the game.

Brooke Bentley: In the offseason, people are talking about getting a pass rusher opposite of Mario Williams or getting more depth in the secondary. Talk about how you are approaching the offseason.

Frank Bush: Right now, I am just dealing with this whole situation. But as we start to move forward, we'll look at free agency. We'll go through the college draft. Gary (Kubiak) has already started to assess the team and do the evaluation for the team. We'll start to assess those things and see exactly where we need to go and what players we need to target and what we need to do to help our team move forward.
