Salaam signs with Lions

Offensive tackle Ephraim Salaam, who spent the past three seasons with the Texans, has signed with the Detroit Lions. ESPN.com reports that **Salaam should push for playing time** as a swing tackle for the Lions, who went 0-16 last season.

Salaam started at left tackle for the Texans in 2006 and 2007. In addition to being one of the most affable players on the team, he was critical to the development of rookie left tackle Duane Brown in 2008 as he rotated with Brown on every third series in a backup role.

Salaam went to college with Texans guard Chester Pitts and, as chronicled in the duo's **hit Super Bowl commercial**, convinced Pitts to begin his football career by walking on at San Diego State.
