Texans-Colts quotes

Following are quotes from the Texans after the team's 43-24 loss to the Indianapolis Colts at the RCA Dome on Sunday.

*Head coach Gary Kubiak *

(on game) "You come into a hostile environment, and this stadium is as hostile as it gets, and you can't have things happen to you that look like nervous things.  The second play of the game we had a bust as a football team, which there is no excuse for since we prepared for (it) over and over again.  So that just shows to me there are nerves there and we haven't figured out a way to settle down.  This is a great football team here, and if you do anything to help them, you have absolutely no chance.  And we definitely helped them today."

**(on Peyton Manning's play against

But I thought our defense stood up in some tough situations early in the ballgame and battled, but he'll pick you apart and he proceeded to do that, but he does that every week."

**(on

We've got a long way to go, but they're going to help us get better as a football team."

(on QB David Carr) "I told him last night at the hotel, I said, 'David, you're not going to have a lot of time to throw the ball, there's going to be people in your face, people stripping at the ball, but we don't use that as an excuse.  We need to step up and play as well as we can play.'  But I thought David Carr battled and did some good things in the second half, but he's got to play for four quarters, and I'm going be on his butt until he becomes a four-quarter player.  And when he does that, our football team is going to get better.  When you're a quarterback and you think you can walk into this dome on Sunday and think you're going be able to sit back there and pat the ball, you're in the wrong ballpark."

* QB David Carr*

(on early game plays) "Coming up here is a chore. This team feeds off the energy of the crowd and the noise level for their defense. It is almost a perfect fit for them. It is tough for our offensive line to hear the counts."

(on early game sack) "I have got to find a way to get back up and into the pocket. It is hard to put it on the offensive line because it is difficult for them because they are keying the defensive ends to get off of the ball."

(on his entire game performance) "I have to play better in the first half. They are plays out there where we get completions, but that is not enough. When you play a team with this good of an offense like the Colts, we have to find a way to do what we did the second half, in the first half."

(on the defense)** "There's no scheme that's going to stop Peyton Manning.  We just have to go out and make plays.  We just didn't do that today."

(general comments)** "We knew coming up here that it was going to be a challenge.  We got off to a rough start, a sack/fumble and gave them seven points early.  When you're playing a team like

I was proud of the way we battled back, nobody quit."

(on the Colts) "I got a feeling as long as #18 is in the backfield, they're going to be a good football team."
