Texans Q&A: Owen Daniels

Tight end Owen Daniels has caught 50 passes for 608 yards in 12 games. Daniels ranks in the top two among AFC tight ends in five different categories. He stopped to answer fan questions about playing at Green Bay.

Brooke Bentley (Texans TV): What is your favorite touchdown reception in your NFL career? (Moran Secundino)

Owen Daniels: Oh, man. My favorite touchdown reception was probably, I would say, my first one I think. The only problem was it was in a losing effort against the Colts my rookie year, but it was a 33-yard touchdown and it was my first one. It was really cool to get that first one in there.

Brooke Bentley: Do you remember what you did to celebrate?

Owen Daniels: I just stuck the ball in the air, I think. That was it. I couldn't celebrate because we were getting our butts kicked at the time.

Brooke Bentley: His second question is what team did you cheer for in your youth? (Moran Secundino)

Owen Daniels: The Cincinnati Bengals. I'm from Chicago, but I wasn't a Bears fan. I didn't hate the Bears. Being a little kid and watching football on TV, I really liked the Bengals helmets. That attracted me to them. They were pretty good in the '80s when I was growing up. Then they were bad for a really long time, but I stuck with them. So, that was who I cheered for.

{QUOTE}Brooke Bentley: You're from Illinois and you're going to play in a place like Green Bay that is very cold, how do you prepare for the cold or are you pretty much used to it? (anonymous fan)

Owen Daniels: I used to be used to it. I think I've become a little bit of a wimp now that I've been down here in Houston with all of the nice weather, but it's hard to prepare when you're not in it. It's something that hopefully won't affect us too much when we're out there playing. As long as the hands and feet are warm, everything will be alright.

Brooke Bentley: I heard a rumor that the offensive line won't be wearing shirts - that they cannot wear long sleeve shirts or they will fine themselves. Is this true?

Owen Daniels: That might be true. I can't confirm that or deny that. I can confirm that I will not be wearing sleeves though.

Brooke Bentley: Are you kidding?

Owen Daniels: I'll be wearing a little hand warmer thing and some tights probably underneath my pants, but no sleeves for me.

Brooke Bentley: Where can I get an Owen Daniels jersey or a 'Vote for Owen' shirt? (Zanne)

Owen Daniels: They don't make Owen Daniels jerseys. You have to either go to a Texans game and have it made during the game or maybe you can go to NFLshop.com. I don't know for sure. As far as the 'Vote for Owen' t-shirts go, I guess go to a game and you might be able to get your hands on one.

Brooke Bentley: Another fan writes in: O.D., I'm voting for you every single day for the Pro Bowl but more importantly are you going to re-sign with Houston? (anonymous fan)

Owen Daniels: I would love to. I guess I'll be a restricted free agent after this year and I'd love to be here for a long time. That's not completely up to me, but I'd definitely love to stay in Houston. I really like our team, I like our coaches, I like the guys and I think we're going in the right direction.

Brooke Bentley: Do you have a touchdown celebration dance planned for your next touchdown? (Ben)

Owen Daniels: You know what? I had one all ready for Monday night. It wasn't anything crazy. I actually talked to my buddy, one of my good friends from high school, he just got back from I guess his second stint in Iraq. I talked to him Sunday night before the game and he was like, 'You got to give me a salute or something when you score.' So, I was ready to do that. Maybe I'll bust that out next time I get in there.

Brooke Bentley: Green Bay has one of the best pass defenses in the league. How do you prepare for a defense that is that fast? (Rocky; Houston, TX)

Owen Daniels: He's exactly right. They're really fast. They play a lot of man-to-man defense, so it's going to be up to us to beat man-coverage. Not a whole lot of sitting in zones and just kind of filling out the area, but we'll have to be on our game. We've been working all week for it, so hopefully I'll get myself open.
