The annual Texans Care contest spotlights the franchise's dedication to the community. In 2002, the Houston Texans Foundation started raising money for charitable efforts. Since then, over $37 million have been raised for disaster response programs, the annual United Way campaign, the Houston Texans YMCA, the Boys and Girls Club of Houston and the Houston Food Bank.
Jessica Cordero, a NASA employee and dedicated volunteer at Kids' Meals Inc., will be celebrated as the 2021 winner of the CampeĂłn de la Comunidad award presented by Miller Lite. For her efforts, the Texans and Miller Lite donated $20,000 to Kids' Meals Inc. in her honor.
Thursday night's game is also a celebration of Latinx Heritage Month.
Leading the team onto the field Thursday will be a trio of American 2020 Olympic medalists. Serving as Homefield Advantage Team Captains are Bryce Deadmon, Raevyn Rogers and Kaitlyn Eaton. Deadmon won gold as part of the 4x400m relay team, while Rogers captured a bronze medal in the 800 meters. Eaton was a bronze medalist in wheelchair basketball.
Grammy Award winner Rev Run and DJ Ruckus will perform at halftime.
The Texans are looking to even their all-time record against the Panthers, as Carolina leads the series 3-2.
