2005 schedule notes

  • For the first time in team history, the Texans have two primetime games - both on ESPN's Sunday Night Football.
  • ESPN will televise the home game against Kansas City (11/20/05) and away against Seattle (10/16/05).
  • The game against Seattle marks the first time the Texans have played a primetime game outside of Reliant Stadium.
  • The Texans played in primetime against the Cowboys in their inaugural game (9/8/02) and the Packers in 2004 (11/21/04).
  • Houston will play on a Saturday for the first time in its brief history against Jacksonville in Reliant Stadium (12/24/05).
  • For the first time in team history, the Texans open and close the regular season away from Reliant Stadium.
  • Houston's 2005 schedule features four playoff teams (Indianapolis, Pittsburgh, St. Louis and Seattle). 
  • The Texans 2005 home opponents finished last season with a 66-62 combined record (.516) and their 2005 road opponents had a 63-65 combined record (.492) in 2004.
  • Thanks to the rotating schedule setup by the NFL before the 2002 season, the Texans will have played every NFL team by the end of 2005. The only team's they haven't faced are the four from the NFC West.
  • The Texans will only have 12 regular season games televised on CBS, compared to 14 in 2002, 2003 and 2004.
  • FOX will televise Houston's first games in team history against St. Louis (11/27) and Arizona (12/18).
  • The Texans are 3-1 in games played on FOX…Wins - vs. N.Y. Giants 16-14 (11/24/02), Carolina Panthers 14-10 (11/2/03) and Atlanta Falcons 17-13 (11/30/03). The Texans only loss on FOX came last year in overtime against the Minnesota Vikings (10/10/05).
  • With a Week 3 bye, the Texans off-week was scheduled the earliest in team history.
  • Houston finished 2004 with a 4-4 record on the road to mark the first time the Texans have won four road games in a season.
  • The Texans will play two games on holidays in 2005 - when they face the Jaguars in Reliant Stadium on Christmas Eve and in San Francisco on New Year's Day.
  • The Texans are 4-1 at home against the NFC in wins against Dallas 19-10 (9/8/02), NY Giants 16-14 (11/24/02) Carolina 14-10 (11/2/03) and Atlanta 17-13 (11/30/03) and in a loss last season in overtime against Minnesota 34-28 (10/10/04).
  • The game in San Francisco (1/1/06) marks the second time the Texans will play in the month of January. The last time was in the 2004 season finale.
  • The Texans swept two AFC South opponents in 2004 for the first time in team history (Tennessee, Jacksonville).
  • The Texans have played against seven (AFC South, AFC East, AFC West, AFC North, NFC South, NFC East, NFC North) of the eight NFL divisions in their first three years – Houston has beaten at least one team from each division they played. The Texans get their chance to beat a team from the only division they haven't faced in the NFC West when they face all four teams in 2005 (Arizona, St. Louis, San Francisco, Seattle).
  • Houston plays its initial division against Tennessee for the second year in a row – The Texans are 3-1 in their first division games.
  • There are three stretches of back-to-back home games and two stretches of back-to-back road games. Houston owns a 2-2 record at home in back to back games in 2004, and a 3-3 record in consecutive road games during that span.
  • The Texans have a 9-19 record against teams they are facing in 2005.
