The Texans will draft an LSU running back...if you believe the experts.
The Combine is behind us, Pro Days have begun around the nation, the NFL Draft is less than two months away, and the third iteration of the Houston Texans Mock Draft Survey saw the mockers go with Clyde Edwards-Helaire.
Houston has the 57th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, and three of the 12 most-prominent mock drafts had the Tiger turning into a Texan. Eight mock drafts, though, saw Houston going with cornerback help in the second round.
The Texans are without a first-round pick for the next two springs, as they acquired Pro Bowl left tackle Laremy Tunsil and receiver Kenny Stills from Miami in exchange for the 2020 and 2021 first-round picks, the 2021 second-round selection, as well as cornerback Johnson Bademosi and tackle Julién Davenport. Houston also picked up the Dolphins' third-round pick this season, which they then dealt to Oakland in October for cornerback Gareon Conley.
For the last 10 years or so, HoustonTexans.com has compiled the notable mock drafts from around the web. Because the majority of mock drafts cover just the first round, the amount of mocks for the Texans this year is limited signicantly.
In total, cornerback was the most popular position choice with eight, and four had Houston going with a running back. One mock draft saw the Texans going with an offensive lineman.
The first Mock Draft Survey for 2020 was shortly after last year's draft, and over three months before the blockbuster deal with the Dolphins. The second version was the week before the NFL Combine. We'll post a fourth edition in the coming weeks.
