A bittersweet career day for WR Chris Moore

Chris Moore had a career day, setting single-game highs in receptions, receiving yards and scored on the longest touchdown of his career. However, the accolades were bittersweet for the veteran wide receiver following the Texans' 25-22 loss to the New England Patriots.

"It sucks," Moore said. "On one note, you're happy for yourself but this is a team game. All them stats, all that doesn't matter because we still took the L."

Elevated from the practice squad on Saturday, Moore caught everything thrown his way with five receptions on five targets for 109 yards and a touchdown against the New England Patriots.

"I won my matchups," Moore said. "He called some great plays that gave me an opportunity to make some great plays. I may have left some out on the field. Wish I could have done more. Davis Mills you keep seeing him getting better. I was excited to go out there and make some plays for him."

With multiple injuries at wide receiver, the Houston Texans have elevated the six-year veteran from the practice squad to the active roster twice this season. In Week 3 against Carolina, Moore didn't get a pass thrown his way in Davis Mills' first career NFL start. However, on Sunday against the Patriots, Mills leaned heavily on him.

"It was awesome," Mills said. "I felt like right when his number was called to go out there and play, he was ready for it. He's been right there during every week of practice, filling in when he needs to. He really stepped into the role. Made some plays today."

In the second quarter of Sunday's 25-22 loss to New England, Moore scored on a 67-yard touchdown play to give Houston a 12-6 lead over the Patriots. The touchdown reception was the longest of Moore's career.

"He played phenomenal, obviously stepped up and had that huge catch in the first half, I think like 67-yard touchdown," Mills said. "That was a big play. Kind of got the momentum rolling and made some other big-time catches and blocks throughout the game."

The Texans have been short-handed with multiple injuries at wide receiver. Houston placed rookie Nico Collins on Injured Reserve after Week 2 and released WR Anthony Miller this week. Danny Amendola returned to practice this week but was also inactive against the Patriots, missing the last three games with a thigh injury.

Although he spent the week on the Practice Squad, Moore did get a chance to work on his chemistry with the rookie quarterback.

"I got to do a little bit more stuff this week because we thought we might be a little short," Moore said. "So luckily this week I got to go and get some one-on-ones with them. You do as much as you can. My big thing is I study and I know like everything I'm supposed to do. It doesn't matter what position they throw me at. I'm just prepared for them to give me my opportunity."

The Texans will host the Los Angeles Rams in Week 8 and kickoff is set for noon CT. Click here for tickets.
