Andre Johnson practiced Friday, and head coach Gary Kubiak said he'll probably be a game-time decision on Sunday against the Rams. When asked if he'd be ready for Week 6, Johnson said he "doesn't see why not". That response made Kubiak happy.
"I like that," Kubiak said. "It must be game time."
Johnson was didn't participate in Wednesday or Thursday's practice because of a shin injury that he suffered in the loss at Baltimore. It's nagged him the past few weeks, and he described how.
"After watching the game last week, you can see I was dragging my leg when I was trying to
run and stuff like that," Johnson said. "But today, I went out there and practiced and I felt like I got my range of motion back and stuff a little bit. It's the best I've felt so far since I've had the injury. I'll be out there."
Kubiak reiterated how tough Johnson is.
"You know if he can get there, he's going to get there for you, as a coach and as a teammate," Kubiak said. "I know his leg has not felt good. He's played really nicked up for us the last two weeks and probably not going to feel real good on Sunday. He always gives it up for his teammates."
Kubiak also emphasized that he and the medical training staff would have to step in if they see that Johnson isn't able to operate at a sufficient level.
"If he's not able to do the things he's capable of doing, we can't put him in a bad situation and we won't do that," Kubiak said.
Johnson has started every regular season and playoff game for the Texans since Week 17 of 2011. He missed the Week 16 contest that year at Indianapolis with a hamstring injury.
