Big 12, Big East shine

It was another exciting weekend for the Texas Bowl's participating conferences as both leagues prove to be among the nation's elite. There are still three Big East teams that are undefeated, and the Big 12 had three teams come back from late-game deficits to win exciting games. Both conferences' top teams moved up in the national rankings and improved their overall records.

Fourth-ranked West Virginia, sixth-ranked Louisville, and 16th-ranked Rutgers all remain undefeated with overall records of 7-0. This is the first time that Rutgers has been 7-0 since 1976, and the first time for Louisville since 1925. Louisville and West Virginia both have an open week this Saturday before their much anticipated matchup on Nov. 2.

Big 12 Conference football was intense as fifth-ranked Texas, 22nd-ranked Texas A&M and Baylor each came from behind to win late in their games.  The Longhorns claimed first place in the Big 12 Conference South by beating 20th-ranked Nebraska 22-20 in the last minutes of the game. Nebraska fumbled the ball while trying to run out the clock, giving the Longhorns a chance to kick a field goal and claim the top position. Texas A&M defeated Oklahoma State 34-33 in overtime by blocking an extra point, and Baylor came back from an 18-point deficit in the second half to beat the Kansas Jayhawks 36-35.

The inaugural Texas Bowl is on its way to becoming the newest Texas football tradition by bringing two football powerhouses to battle it out at Reliant Stadium.  The Big East and Big 12 Conferences now have eight teams combined that are bowl eligible, proving that the Texas Bowl is going to be fiercely competitive.
