The Super Bowl is coming back to Houston, with or without the Texans.
But Bob McNair would like his team to be involved.
"It's never happened that the host city, host team, played in the Super Bowl, so we'd like to break that record," McNair said at Thursday's unveiling of the Super Bowl LI countdown clock. That would be wonderful and anything is possible."
On Sunday, the Broncos bested the Panthers in Super Bowl 50. The Texans' founder, chairman and CEO
pointed to that victory and saw a big similarity between that squad and his own in Houston.
"We're delighted to see the guys up in Denver succeed and you saw that they did it with their defense," McNair said. "That's what we've been working towards and we have a chance, so hopefully we'll have that opportunity."
Mayor Sylvester Turner was also at the event on Thursday, and reiterated that he'd like to see the Texans as participants in the big game.
"It would be so nice not only for us to host it but for us also to be in the stadium cheering for the Texans while they play," Turner said.
Next year's Super Bowl will be February 5th at NRG Stadium.
