Brock Osweiler "checks all the boxes" at QB

The Texans decision-makers got their man at quarterback.

Brock Osweiler signed with the Texans on Thursday after a four-year career with the Broncos.

"We were hoping that he would be available," team chairman/CEO Bob McNair said. "We were prepared to do whatever it took to get the deal consummated."

Osweiler, who along with running back Lamar Miller and offensive linemen Jeff Allen and Tony

Bergstrom, was the headliner of the quartet that signed on Thursday.

"This guy is a good quarterback," head coach Bill O'Brien said. "He's got command at the line of scrimmage. He stands in the pocket. He doesn't look at the rush. He played well in some big games this past year in Denver."

In 21 career games for the Broncos, the former Arizona State Sun Devil completed 187-of-305 passes (61.3%) for 2,126 yards. He's thrown 11 career touchdown passes and six interceptions. Last season he started seven games for the Super Bowl champions, and Denver won five of those contests.

"He checks all the boxes," general manager Rick Smith said. "What you look for in a quarterback, I think you're talking about physical characteristics. Mental things you look for at the position. Toughness. Competitiveness."

Osweiler joins veterans Brian Hoyer and Tom Savage in the quarterback corps.
