Cheerleader tryout FAQs

Houston Texans Tryouts Frequently Asked Questions:

Are there any age requirements?
You must be at least 18 years of age by April 2, 2006 (no exceptions). There is no limit for maximum age. This past season our ages ranged from 18 to 31.

Rehearsals:

  • Rehearsals are held Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings throughout the summer starting in June. You will receive a detailed calendar if you are selected as a finalist.
  • Cheerleaders participate in all Texans home games, playoffs, and promotional Appearances.

What will the judges be looking for?
Dance Ability, Showmanship, Appearance, Character, Poise, Personality, Application, Education, Community Service and Future Goals.

Are there any height or weight requirements?
No.

What is the time commitment? Is this a full-time job?
No, being a Houston Texans Cheerleader is not a full-time job. Most of our team members are full-time students, full-time mothers, or have full time jobs. The time commitment is usually 15 hours a week of rehearsal time and during the season, up to 25 hours a week including games.

Can my family come and watch auditions?
No. Auditions are closed to the public.

Do current team members have to re-audition?
Yes, all members must go through the audition process each season and are not guaranteed their place on the team.

What can I do to prepare for auditions?
Dance: call your local dance studio and ask about technique and choreography classes. Work on stretching, kicks, turns, and choreography. You need to be able to pick up choreography fairly quickly and feel comfortable performing for the judges.
