Clowney visiting Houston "in next month"

The Texans have watched every snap Jadeveon Clowney played in college.

They met with him at the Combine.

They broke bread with him on Tuesday night in South Carolina.

And they'll see him again soon.

"He's gonna come to Houston at some point later in the month as well," general manager Rick Smith said on Wednesday in a 1-on-1 for Texans TV.

Clowney put on a show at his Pro Timing Day in Columbia, South Carolina. Smith spoke about the "exhaustive" process of learning about a potential draft pick, and he detailed a little bit more of what the Texans have done with Clowney.

"We talked with him in Indianapolis and spent some time with him there, but that meeting was more rushed," Smith said. "It's a 15 minute block that's back-to-back to back with other guys."

Smith, chief operating officer Cal McNair and head coach Bill O'Brien were able to eat dinner with Clowney on Tuesday evening. Clowney said it was a "good" meeting, and Smith agreed.

"It was an opportunity for us to really kind of slow the pace down and really get to know the young man, what he's all about, and it really was a good meeting," Smith said. "This process is exhaustive so we're gonna spend as much time with him and as many other prospects as we can to make sure that we know exactly who they are and what kind of men they are."

The NFL Draft begins Thursday, May 8.
