Linebacker Brian Cushing has earned his fifth nomination this season for Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week honors. He made nine tackles, one sack and one interception in the Texans' 27-20 win over the Miami Dolphins.
The Texans' first-round draft pick (15th overall) out of USC, Cushing has twice won AFC Defensive Player of the Week honors this season. He was named NFL Defensive Rookie of the Month for November and is a leading candidate for the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award. Also, don't be surprised if Cushing's name is called Tuesday evening when the Pro Bowl rosters are announced.
Cushing leads the AFC and all NFL rookies with 128 tackles this season. He has six double-digit tackle games. Cushing also has four interceptions, 4.0 sacks and 10 passes defensed.
Voting for Pepsi Rookie of the Week is open until Friday, Jan. 1, at 11 a.m. CT.
Other nominees include Browns wide receiver Mohamed Massaquoi, Eagles wide receiver Jeremy Maclin and Falcons cornerback Chris Owens.
