Cushing up for Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week

Rookie linebacker Brian Cushing, who leads the AFC with 112 tackles, recorded 10 tackles and a sack against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.

Linebacker Brian Cushing has earned his fourth nomination this season for Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week honors. Cushing had 10 tackles and a sack in the Texans' 34-7 drubbing of the Seattle Seahawks in Week 13.

The Texans' first-round draft pick (15th overall) out of USC, Cushing has twice won AFC Defensive Player of the Week honors this season. He was named NFL Defensive Rookie of the Month for November and is a leading candidate for the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award.

Cushing leads the AFC and all NFL rookies with 112 tackles this season. He has six double-digit tackle games. Cushing also has three interceptions, 2.5 sacks and nine passes defensed, which is tied for the Texans' team high.

Voting for Pepsi Rookie of the Week is open until Friday, Dec. 18, at 11 a.m. CT. Other nominees include Browns linebacker Marcus Benard, Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks, Ravens offensive tackle Michael Oher and Redskins defensive end Brian Orakpo.
