The day after his Texans fell in overtime to Seattle, head coach Gary Kubiak remained resolute that while the first four games of 2013 haven't gone the way everyone's liked, there's still a lot more season left.
"I try to keep it on perspective," Kubiak said. "We've played a quarter of the season and we're obviously not where we want to be. But it's a long long way to go and we're a very, very capable football team."
The Texans let a 20-3 third quarter advantage get erased by 20 unanswered Seahawk points. The play drawing the lion's share of negative attention in the aftermath was the Matt Schaub interception that was returned for the game-tying touchdown by Seattle cornerback Richard Sherman. Schaub was visibly angry with himself following the play, but Kubiak isn't worried about whether or not his signal-caller can bounce back.
"I don't see a lack of confidence," Kubiak said. "I see some poor decision-making situations, some that he has to handle and some that we can help him handle."
On the day, Schaub was 31-for-49 passing, with 355 yards and a pair of touchdowns to go along with two interceptions. There was a lot of good in the first half from Schaub, but the negatives and the final interception caused Kubiak to have a talk with his quarterback.
"You know how they're feeling," Kubiak said. "You know what they've just been through. I felt really bad from my own standpoint with the position that I put him in. I've been coaching quarterbacks for a long time. I just try to talk through the situation while it's fresh. I understand how our guy is feeling, what he's fixing to go home to and what that evening is going to be like and start preparing for that right away and move forward. You just want him to know that you're there for him more than anything."
The Texans have Tuesday off, and will return to the practice field Wednesday in preparation for Sunday night's matchup in San Francisco.
