Fast start offensively helps Texans in win over Titans

For the Texans on Sunday, going 2-for-2 meant 14.

Houston capped each of it's first two possessions against the Titans with a touchdown, and had a 14-0 advantage with 5:34 remaining in the opening quarter.

"The biggest thing that really jumps out to you is we were kind of playing in a no-huddle mode," quarterback Brock Osweiler said. "We weren't going extremely fast but we had a good tempo. That was something Coach really talked about all week long."

Osweiler and the Texans went 75 yards on nine plays in the first drive, and chewed 4:29 off the clock.

They faced a third down just once, as a 3rd-and-4 at the Tennessee 34-yard line resulted in a 7-yard pass to Will Fuller. Two plays later, Osweiler found tight end C.J. Fiedorowicz for a 14-yard score in the back of the end zone.

"We just came out and played our game," receiver DeAndre Hopkins said. "We knew they were a tough defense. We knew some things that we felt like could work, and everything clicked in the first half."

Running back Lamar Miller was involved on five of those first nine plays, picking up chunks of five, six and 13 yards on the ground, while adding in a 5-yard reception and an 11-yard catch as well.

"We did a good job staying ahead of the chains and not having negative plays or penalties," right guard Jeff Allen said. "That helped us a ton. As long as we can keep the ball going we have a ton of playmakers and eventually we're going to get the ball into the end zone."

On the second possession, it took the Texans just six plays to go 80 yards, with tight end Ryan Griffin getting 45 of those 80 on a 1st-and-10 pass from the 46. Two plays later, Osweiler connected with Fuller for a 5-yard touchdown.

The Texans torrid start was due to "a pretty good tempo" and "starting off on a good note" according to Bill O'Brien. But the head coach emphasized that the successful beginning needs to be sustained.

"The key is to try and do a better job from this point forward of sustaining that throughout the game," O'Brien said.

Osweiler connected on 9-of-10 passes for 112 yards on those two drives, and distributed the ball to five different receivers.
