GM Brian Gaine describes 1st month on the job

Since he was named general manager on January 13, Brian Gaine has been busy.

"It's been a whirlwind of a month in terms of our preparation," Gaine told Marc Vandermeer and John Harris during a Texans Radio interview.

Gaine and company dove right in, and this week in Indianapolis at the Combine, he explained what he's done after getting hired.

"Since the press conference, naturally the Senior Bowl took place and we coached in it, which was a great advantage and opportunity for our coaches and scouts to descend on Mobile and gain great access and information to the players," Gaine said.

But the evaluation wasn't limited to Draft hopefuls. The current Texans were also under the microscope for Gaine.

"Number two was evaluate our roster," Gaine said. "I'll start diving into evaluating what we have, what we need, offensively, defensively and especially fourth down and on special teams."

Gaine said the third component of preparation was getting ready for free agency meetings, as well as the Draft meetings.

"It's been a partnership between our scouts and coaches going through our free agency meetings," Gaine said. "We just completed our pre-Combine February meetings which lasted two weeks, and here we are in Indy."
