The Outback Champions Tour and Golf's Nationwide Tour are heading back to Houston! River Oaks Country Club in Houston, Texas will be the site of the Stanford Cup, part of the Outback Champions Tour, to be played from November 8-12, 2006. The Houstonian Golf & Country Club in Richmond, Texas is the chosen course for the Nationwide Tour on November 6-12, 2006.
The Stanford Cup will be five full days of action-packed competition with eight of the greatest names in men's tennis over the age of 30. Former world No. 1 players John McEnroe, Jim Courier and Mats Wilander will highlight the Houston field that will also feature 1987 Wimbledon champion Pat Cash, US Davis Cup star Aaron Krickstein, and former French Open finalist Mikael Pernfors.
The event will be the fifth and final event of the 2006 Outback Champions Series, a series of professional tennis events in the United States. Day and night sessions will run through Saturday to narrow the field for a Sunday shootout that will determine the winner of the Stanford Cup.
Golf's Nationwide Tour is the developmental tour for the U.S. based PGA Tour, and features professional golfers who are trying to qualify to earn their PGA Tour card. The Purse for this year's tournament is $750,000. As with the PGA tour, the winner of the tournament will get a prize of 18% of the total purse.
Some of the best golfers will be here to try and prove themselves as PGA Tour material. The Nationwide Tour is one of the nine tours on which Official World Golf Ranking points are available, and one of only two developmental tours that offer ranking points, the other being the Europe-based Challenge Tour.
