Third Texans offensive player to earn Rookie of the Month honors.*

HOUSTON – Houston Texans WR DeAndre Hopkins was named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month for September, the NFL announced today. He is the first Texan to earn rookie of the month honors since LB Brian Cushing was tabbed with the distinction in 2009 (November and December).

Hopkins is the sixth Texan and third offensive player to earn rookie of the month honors (seventh awarded) in franchise history. The last Texans offensive rookie to win the award was RB Steve Slaton in December 2008.

Hopkins (6-1, 218) finished the month with 20 receptions for 270 yards (13.5 avg.) and a touchdown. The 27th overall selection in the 2013 NFL Draft, Hopkins leads all rookies in receiving yards, total yards from scrimmage and is tied for the most receptions.

Hopkins had an exceptional game in Week 2 against Tennessee (9/15) when he recorded seven receptions for 117 yards and the game-winning touchdown in overtime. With his 3-yard touchdown reception, he became the youngest player in NFL history to score a game-winning touchdown in overtime (21 years and 101 days). His 117 receiving yards was the first 100-yard receiving game by an NFL rookie this season. Additionally, it was the first 100-yard game by a Texans wide receiver other than Andre Johnson since 2010 and the second-best receiving total for a Texans rookie in franchise history.

Hopkins' 20 receptions for 270 yards are the second-most catches and yards in franchise history through a rookie receiver's first four games, behind only Johnson's 26 receptions for 346 yards in 2003.

This is the second NFL honor this season for the Texans after Cushing received the GMC Never Say Never Moment of the Week Award for his game-tying interception return in Week 1.
