Matt Schaub will start Sunday against Rams

Head coach Gary Kubiak said Wednesday that quarterback Matt Schaub will start Sunday against Saint Louis.

"It was a tough decision," Kubiak said. "Real tough. But I feel like it was the best thing for our football team this weekend."

During a Monday press conference, Kubiak said he would go through an "evaluation stage" about the team, including the quarterback position. After giving the players Monday and Tuesday off, Kubiak decided to with Schaub as the starter, after inserting backup T.J. Yates into the fourth quarter of Sunday night's loss.

Schaub threw a trio of interceptions Sunday night in the loss at San Francisco, and his first pass was an interception returned for a touchdown. Schaub's had an interception returned for a score in four consecutive games.

Offensive coordinator Rick Dennison said he's "100 percent behind" the decision to start Scahub.

"When we make a decision, we stick behind it," Dennison said. "We're looking forward to going out and performing and doing much better."

The Texans practiced Wednesday afternoon at the Houston Methodist Training Center.
