NRG Stadium to host A.C. Milan and Chivas Guadalajara

*HOUSTON – European powerhouse A.C. Milan will take on famed Mexican side Club Deportivo Guadalajara in a friendly match at NRG Stadium on Wednesday, Aug. 6 at 8 p.m. CST, Lone Star Sports & Entertainment, the Houston Dynamo, and Relevent Sports announced today. Tickets for the match at NRG Stadium will go on sale to the general public on Friday, July 11 beginning at 11 a.m. CST.

One of the world's most popular and storied football clubs, A.C. Milan has won 18 Serie A titles, seven UEFA Champions League titles and four world club titles. The club is tied with Boca Juniors with 18 international trophies including seven European Championships.

The club is led by Italian superstar Mario Balotelli, Japanese attacker Keisuke Honda and newly signed French midfielder Jeremy Menez. 

The "Rossoneri" reached the Round of 16 of the 2013-14 UEFA Champions League, and in this summer presented legend Filippo Inzaghi as the club's new manager.

One of the most historic and successful clubs in Mexico, Chivas has captured 11 first division titles in and has raised two Copa México trophies. Additionally, the 108-year-old team is the only club in Mexico to exclusively field Mexican players, a concept that has made Chivas a steady contributor of players to the Mexican National Team. Standout players include Omar Bravo, Aldo DeNigris, the 2012 Olympic gold medalists Jorge Enriquez and Antonio Rodriguez, as well as the FIFA Under-17 world champions Carlos Fierro and Patricio Araujo. 

The club also just signed Mexican stars Angel Reyna, Fernando Arce and secured the return of 2014 FIFA World Cup participant Carlos Salcido to the club.

The match will mark the first matchup between the two regional powers. Chivas' last appearance in Houston was a 1-0 victory over the Houston Dynamo on July 15, 2008. 

Since 2010, NRG Stadium has hosted the 2010 MLS All-Star Game against Manchester United, the 2011 CONCACF Gold Cup, a Jan. 25, 2012 friendly between the Mexico and Venezuela and a May 31, 2013 friendly between Mexico and Nigeria.
