Quarterback Matt Schaub was not at practice on Wednesday after being hospitalized overnight because of a bursa sac issue in his knee.
Texans coach Gary Kubiak said that the team let Schaub stay in the hospital Wednesday to rest and receive extended treatment.
"(He) is doing well, and I expect him to get out this afternoon," Kubiak said. "He should be here tomorrow, so everything should be OK."
Schaub's status for Sunday's game against the New York Jets is undetermined, but Kubiak is optimistic that he will play.
"I've got to see where he's at tomorrow, but I'm telling you I expect him here tomorrow," Kubiak said. "If that's the case and he's doing what he normally does, then you're damn right he'll be out there."
Kubiak said that the team doesn't exactly know what caused the issue in Schaub's knee. Schaub did not have surgery.
"I actually met with Matt yesterday morning for about an hour in the morning, just talking about things, and he was doing fine," Kubiak said. "He went home with his wife and had some problems and called us. We sent him to the doctor, and then that's where it went from there.
"We put him in the hospital to treat it basically and get some rest to get off of it. Thought he would be here this morning, made a decision this morning to let him stay there all day. Like I said, (he) should be getting out here at some point and be able to get back out here tomorrow."
If Schaub is unable to play against the Jets, Dan Orlovsky and Matt Leinart would be the Texans' options against the league's fifth-ranked defense. Orlovsky has been the Texans' No. 2 quarterback all season and worked ahead of Leinart on Wednesday.
"Dan practiced well today," Kubiak said. "Dan and Matt, we'll get them ready to play. But I would expect if everything goes like I'm sitting here talking to you, (Schaub) should be OK."
