Slaton, Super Mario up for NFL honors

The honors keep piling up for running back Steve Slaton.

The third-round pick (89th overall) from West Virginia already won NFLPLAYERS.COM's Rookie of the Week award this week. Now it's been announced that he is nominated for NFL Rookie of the Week honors for the third consecutive week after gaining 93 yards on 16 carries (5.8 avg.) with two touchdowns in the Texans' 31 - 27 loss to the Indianapolis Colts.

A week earlier at Jacksonville, he totaled 83 receiving yards on eight catches with one touchdown in the Texans' 30-27 overtime loss to the Jaguars. Slaton also carried the ball 10 times for 33 rushing yards.

In his first-career start at Tennessee in Week 3, he had a career-high 116 rushing yards with his first career touchdown.

Along with Slaton, defensive end Mario Williams is nominated for NFL Defensive Player of the Week honors after posting four tackles including two sacks against the Colts. Williams now has a team-leading four sacks this season, which ties him for fifth in the AFC.

Voting for Slaton ends Friday, Oct. 10 at 11 a.m. CT. Voting for Williams ends Thursday, Oct. 9 at 3 p.m. CT.
