Texans achieve 3 key goals, still have work to do

The Texans have some things to improve upon, following their 24-13 preseason victory at San Francisco.

But they also accomplished three key goals, according to their head coach.

"We won the turnover battle, we won the field position battle and we won the penalty battle," Bill O'Brien said Monday. "That's a very positive thing that our players were really focused on."

The Texans forced a pair of fumbles Sunday afternoon in Santa Clara. Outside linebacker John Simon scooped up one and ran 41 yards for a first quarter touchdown. Then on the 12th play of a second quarter

drive, safety Kurtis Drummond pounced on a 49ers fumble at the 2-yard line.

The Texans, meanwhile, didn't turn the ball over in the contest.

In terms of penalties, the Texans committed just three for a total of 20 yards. San Francisco, meanwhile, was flagged eight times for 59 yards.

Houston had 13 possessions Sunday, starting on average at their own 27-yard line.

The 49ers started at their own 22 over the average of their 13 possessions.

The Texans return to practice on Tuesday at the Houston Methodist Training Center. They'll host the Saints on Saturday night at NRG Stadium.
