Texans ink third-round draft pick

Jones became the latest rookie to join the fold Wednesday.

HOUSTON - The Houston Texans announced today that they have signed third-round draft pick WR Jacoby Jones, the fourth Texans draft choice to sign.

Jones (6-2 210), was the 73rd selection in the 2007 NFL Draft from Lane (Tenn.) College. Jones joins T Seth Wand from Northwest Missouri State (2003) as the only pair of players the Texans have drafted from the Division II level.

Jones was an All-Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference first-team choice and SIAC Offensive Player of the Year. He led the team with 68 receptions for 822 yards (12.1 avg) and six touchdowns. Jones was a threat on special teams returning 24 punts for 330 yards and a touchdown. He led the conference with 38 kickoff returns for 848 yards (22.3 avg) and a pair of scores.

The New Orleans native was just 5-7 tall and weighed 165 pounds when he graduated from high school. He was an all-area sprinter in track, competing in the 100- and 200-meter dashes. He began his college career at Southeastern Louisiana on a track scholarship before transferring to Lane College in 2003.

LB Zac Diles (6-2, 230) 7th round, 218th overall

S Brandon Harrison (6-2, 215) 5th round, 144th overall

WR Jacoby Jones (6-2, 210) 3rd round, 73rd overall

G Kasey Studdard (6-3, 310) 6th round, 183rd overall
