Texans kick off season with Team Luncheon

The city of Houston is ready for some football.

That was the consensus Tuesday afternoon as the Houston Texans hosted the 11th annual Texans Team Luncheon presented by Amegy Bank of Texas. The Hilton Americas played host to the event, comfortably fitting Texans players, coaches, staff member and 680 guests in the decked-out ballroom. Kicking off the 2014 regular season in grand fashion, the Team Luncheon benefitted the Houston Texans Foundation and is the only event that brings all Texans players and coaches together to interact with fans.

Each player was assigned to a table and enjoyed lunch with fans and team sponsors. Texans founder and CEO Bob McNair and head coach Bill O'Brien addressed the sold out crowd, thanking the attendees for their continued support of the Texans and previewing the exciting season to come.

Defensive end J.J. Watt took home the 4th annual Spirit of the Bull award, which highlights a player's commitment to excellence both on and off the field. The honor acknowledged Watt's charitable work in the Houston community as well as the substantial impact he's made on deserving children through his foundation.

Emceed by "Texans Voice" Marc Vandermeer, the event also featured a Q & A session with coordinators Romeo Crennel, Bob Ligashesky and quarterbacks coach George Godsey. Players Andre Johnson, Brian Cushing, Johnathan Joseph and Watt entertained by answering quirky fan questions, including which team they "loved to hate".

Johnson's answer? Cowboys fans.

The Texans open the regular season at home for the Liberty White Out game against the Washington Redskins on Sept. 7.
