After a 27-24 loss at Arizona, the Texans headed back to Houston with several injury concerns.
Cornerback Kareem Jackson exited the contest in the first half with what he described as a bruised sternum. He said he was hurt on a run play at the end of the first quarter. When he was on the ground after a block, Jackson said he wound up on the bottom of a pile.
Losing Jackson, a starting cornerback, thinned out the depth at that position. It was stretched even further by the loss of Elbert Mack, who exited with a hamstring injury.
Linebacker Joe Mays left the game in the first half as well, but was able to return. He battled through an oblique injury, and finished with six tackles.
"We had quite a few injuries in the game," interim head coach Wade Phillips said. "Especially when Mays went out, and we were down less than five 'backers. That hurt us on that series."
On the offensive side of the ball, receiver DeVier Posey left with hip and back injuries but was able to return to the game. He caught three passes for 34 yards.
Tight end Ryan Griffin, who caught his first career touchdown in the second quarter, was lost on the second half kickoff when he was blindsided by Arizona's Kevin Minter. Griffin left the game with a concussion.
All week long, the Texans were without running back Arian Foster at practice. The Pro Bowler has a back injury, and various media reports have said he'll be placed on the injured reserve on Monday. Foster was ruled out of the game on Friday by Phillips, and he didn't travel with the team to Phoenix.
Reserve linebacker Mike Mohamed was also ruled out on Friday, after suffering a hamstring injury on Wednesday.
