Texans re-sign CB Brice McCain

The Texans have re-signed cornerback Brice McCain as an unrestricted free agent.

McCain, the Texans' nickel corner for the last two seasons, tweeted on Tuesday night that he had agreed to a three-year deal to remian in Houston. He made it official by signing his contract on Wednesday afternoon at Reliant Stadium.

"A few teams came (with interest), but this is where I wanted to be, really," McCain said a few minutes after signing his new deal. "It didn't matter; if the Texans came anywhere close to anybody else, I was going to accept. I'm just happy to stay here and to play for the team and the coaches I love and the players I'm very cool with and grew up with, grew together with up here since I got drafted."

The Texans do not release terms of their contracts, but John McClain of the Houston Chronicle and Mark Berman of Fox 26 KRIV both reported that McCain got a three-year deal worth $5.25 million, with $2.25 guaranteed.

A sixth-round draft pick out of Utah in 2009, McCain (5-9, 185) has essentially been a starter for the last two seasons as the nickel corner. By retaining him, the Texans kept their top three cornerbacks in place in Johnathan Joseph, Kareem Jackson and McCain.

"We're a close group, skill all over," McCain said. "I'm just happy to be here with them guys. Can't wait to get back to work so we can win this big 'ship, get together and have fun."

McCain, 26, ended the 2012 season on the Injured Reserve/Designated to Return list with a broken left foot. He said Wednesday that he feels "great; almost 100 percent" and will be ready for OTAs in May.

McCain is the first of the Texans' 2013 unrestricted free agents to re-sign. Starting free safety Glover Quin, fullback James Casey and outside linebacker Connor Barwin, all members of the same draft class as McCain, left to sign with other teams.
